OUR NEW SPIRITUALITY: MIXING & MATCHING RELIGIOUS TRADITIONS
DTer Tara Isabella Burton returns to guide us through her current acclaimed “STRANGE RITES: New Religions for a Godless World.” In Tara’s view, a “godless world” is too limited. Instead, she says, Americans' withdrawal from formal, organized, institutional religionsare seeking a spiritual renaissance akin to our 18th century “Great Awakening.” A paradox, as intuition replaces the formality of institutions, and traditional religions are being integrated in search of meaning, purpose, ritual and community. Tara holds a doctorate in theology from Oxford, and has emerged as a leading commentator in historical perspective on the role of religion in modern life.
