SPEAKER: MILES CHAPIN

MILES CHAPIN, a 5th generation member of the storied Steinway piano family, will tell us everything we ever wanted to know about the Steinway piano and how it achieved Its preeminence in the rarefied world of concert pianos. His book “88 Keys: The Making of a Steinway Piano” tells the story. Growing up in the artistic world of his father Schuyler Chapin, the General Manager of the Metropolitan Opera, he has pursued a career as an actor (22) films), writer, and real estate executive.

His book walks us through the construction of a Steinway involving five hundred highly skilled artisans, from the selection of the woods to the assembly of the final all handmade piano, each taking several years to emerge as a work of art.
