The Homecoming Seasons: An Irish Catholic Returns to a Changed Long Island
Writer James P. MacGuire will discuss his current well-received memoir, “The Homecoming Seasons: An Irish Catholic Returns to a Changed Long Island.” Having grown-up in Lawrence, on Long Island, MacGuire worked and lived abroad for many years, working for Time, Inc., Macmillan, and NPR. In 1994, he and his wife and two sons decamped from New York City to Lawrence. Thus begins a voyage of discovery of both continuity and change in the town and in themselves, all magically described in his luminous prose. He skillfully interweaves his childhood memories of a the town with the present, and joys and tribulations of marriage and family.
