SPEAKER: JAMES CURTIS
Cultural and film historian, James Curtis, discusses his acclaimed new biography, “BUSTER KEATON, A Filmmaker’s Life,” a major biography of the legendary comedian and filmmaker. Keaton elevated physical comedy to the highest of arts and whose ingenious films remain as startling, innovative, modern- and irresistible- today as they were when they first captivated audiences nearly a century away. Keaton’s iconic deadpan stare in his porkpie hat, christened “The Great Stone Face” by James Agee was as recognizable as Charlie Chaplin’s little tramp. Curtis has superbly chronicled the emergence and career of the comic genius who revolutionized comedy in cinema.
