This season’s major new exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, according to museum director Hans Hollein, will feature “an unprecedented look at some of Van Gogh’s most iconic works.” These include Starry Night; Wheat Fields with Cypresses; and, Country Road in Provence at Night. As curator Susan Alison Stein says, about the artist and these flame-like trees, “few motifs exerted a greater hold on his imagination.” Van Gogh’s Cypress Trees opens May 22 and continues through August 27, 2023. Franklin Hill Perrell, who has traveled in Van Gogh’s footsteps researching the sites which inspired the artist, will give you an insider’s preview revealing the backstory behind the creation of these extraordinary works.
