Entertainer: Tom Hubbard - a bassist who has performed with instrumentalists Kenny Barron, Jay McShann, Charlie Rouse, Dewey Redman, Dannie Richmond and Dave Stryker among others, as well as a long list of singers including Joe Williams, Jon Hendricks, Mose Allison, Freddy Cole, Chris Connor, Sheila Jordan, Liza Minnelli, Michael Feinstein, Marilyn Maye, Stacey Kent and Martha Reeves and the Vandellas. He has performed in some of the top venues worldwide including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, The Academy of Music (Philadelphia), The Sydney Opera House, NHK Hall (Tokyo) and Frankfurt’s Alte Oper. He is a two-time MAC Award winner for best ensemble instrumentalist.
Speaker: Ken Dorph - a leading financial sector consultant on—and throughout— the Islamic World (for Citibank, Booz, Allen, Smith, Barney, and the World Bank) will discuss “Keys to Understanding and Misunderstanding the Arab Middle East.” Fluent in Arabic, Dorph has lived or worked in most every Arab country, and, since the abortive “Arab Spring”, has been active in Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia, Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
