Musical theatre dramatic historian Charles Troy is a graphic designer and former theatre lyricist who has developed more than sixty multimedia presentations on musical theatre subjects. These visually seamless presentations combine his own original graphics with historic photos, edited audio tracks with the lyrics displayed onscreen, and illustrative video clips — all coordinated with a scripted narrative, evolved from his extensive research, that weaves the pertinent events into a dramatic tale. Since 2010, he has presented annually at the Cole Porter Festival in Porter’s hometown of Peru, Indiana. (His repertoire includes nine different Cole Porter presentations!) In 2017, he made his New York City debut at the York Theatre Company and appeared there seven times over the next three years. He has also appeared in Scottsdale, San Francisco, and tours of Florida every winter. Troy is based in the Chicago area. He has been profiled in the lead article in the entertainment section of the Chicago Tribune, and his presentation on “The Wizard of Oz” was a page one feature story in the Tribune as well. The late Roy Leonard, retired theatre critic for WGN-TV in Chicago, wrote in his blog: “I first saw Charles a few months back and have been back three times since, learning things I have never known about shows I’ve been enjoying for years.”
